New BOP in Remote Border Area to strengthen BGB surveillance

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui inaugurated the newly constructed Rahmatpur Border Outpost (BOP) in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday (September 2) to strengthen security and surveillance along the remote hilly border. The new BOP, under Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB), is expected to increase patrolling along the Feni River route and remote hilly areas and strengthen the BGB’s ability to prevent smuggling.

During the inauguration, the BGB chief said the Rahmatpur border area is strategically important because of its mountainous terrain and the Feni River basin. He said, “The establishment of the new BOP will increase patrols in remote hilly areas and the Feni river route, as well as control potential smuggling routes. At the same time, the BGB’s operational capacity to prevent the smuggling of illegal goods including drugs and weapons will significantly increase.”

The BGB chief later inspected Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB) and held a video conference with personnel serving under the Chattogram BGB Region. He issued directions on operational, training and administrative activities. He said BGB members are working day and night to protect the country’s 4,427-kilometre border.

He also urged personnel to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism, particularly in preventing drug and arms smuggling, illegal infiltration, push-ins and other cross-border crimes.
He also directed officials to make necessary preparations from November ahead of the upcoming local elections. Later, he visited Bagapara BOP under Jaminipara Battalion (23 BGB) and Rangamati Sector’s Rajnagar Battalion (37 BGB), where he discussed border security and operational responsibilities with personnel.
