Finishing All Works Within Six Months Is Impossible: Water Resources Minister

Mr. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, the BNP Joint Secretary General and Minister of Water Resources, has said that it is not possible to expect all government activities to be finished within six months of taking office. Around 11:30 AM on Friday, he delivered these statements as the chief guest at the initiation of a cleaning program for the Rahmatkhali Canal in the Lakshmipur municipality area. This project was coordinated by the district units of Swechchhasebak Dal and Krishak Dal.

Speaking to the opposition, Mr. Annie said that political critics have to be aware of the practical limitations of six months. He criticized the opposition for scheduling lengthy marches at this early stage and emphasized that the administration prefers actual work over selfies while highlighting ongoing national projects and questioning whether high-level infrastructure goals, such as the reconstruction of 20,000 kilometers of canals, could realistically be completed in six months.

A key element of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s election campaign is the highly ambitious goal of constructing and reconstructing 20,000 kilometers of canals nationally, the minister said, defining the government’s long-term vision. A scheduled nationwide execution approach directed at long-term public benefit was launched last March with the official beginning of this massive project from Dinajpur.

Mr. Annie went on to point out that reconstructing canals is a fundamental project that is directly related to improving agricultural output, improving water drainage systems, growing fish aquaculture, and improving the rural economy. Local officials and political figures, such as District Council Administrator Mr. Sahab Uddin Sabu and District BNP Joint Convener Mr. Hasibur Rahman, also attended the event and noted that early positive effects are already visible across many regions due to this thoughtful planning.
