Some important roads in the hotel-motel zone of Cox’s Bazar, a tourist city with the world’s longest beach, have been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. A road in front of Hotel The Coxtude is submerged in water after a light rain. This has created waterlogging. As a result, domestic and foreign tourists, hotel guests and local pedestrians are facing extreme hardship.

Concerned people have expressed their anger over the fact that this important one-kilometer road in the tourist area has not been renovated for a long time. They allege that although the road problems and waterlogging have been reported to the concerned authorities several times, no effective initiative has been seen so far.

Abu Taleb, AGM of Hotel The Coxtude, said that for almost a year, they have been facing various problems due to the poor condition and waterlogging of the road in front of the hotel. He said, domestic and foreign tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar expect a clean, beautiful and comfortable environment. Especially when staying in the hotel-motel zone, they want to walk freely and enjoy the atmosphere of the tourist area. But tourists are suffering as water accumulates in front of the hotels even after a little rain.

Mr. Taleb said, “Many tourists express disappointment at the poor condition of the road in front of the hotel. Some also make negative comments about the tourism management and environment of Cox’s Bazar. As a hotelier, we also feel bad when we hear these things.” He said, “If the road is renovated quickly, not only our hotels but the entire tourism sector will benefit. If the transportation system and environment for tourists are improved, the hotel and motel business will gain momentum. If the number of tourists increases, business activities will expand and the government’s revenue will also increase.”

A tourist staying at the hotel said that Hotel The Coxtude is a favorite among tourists due to its quality of service and ambiance. However, he commented that the poor condition of the road in front of the hotel contradicts the image of a good quality establishment. The tourist said, “The hotel’s service and environment are good. But the condition of the road in front of the hotel is really disappointing. Water accumulates even with a little rain. The hotel authorities cannot be held responsible for this condition. The authorities concerned are responsible for maintaining and repairing important roads in the tourist area.”

Local residents and businessmen complain that although the hotel-motel zone of Cox’s Bazar city is one of the most important tourist areas in the country, some of the roads and drainage management here have been neglected for a long time. Especially during the monsoon, waterlogging on the roads disrupts pedestrian and vehicle movement.

According to them, tourists from different parts of the world come to visit Cox’s Bazar. Therefore, special importance needs to be given to the infrastructure, roads and environmental management of the tourist area. They also fear that the long-standing poor condition of the road in front of an important hotel could create a negative impression about Cox’s Bazar among tourists.

Those concerned have sought urgent intervention from the relevant authorities, including the Cox’s Bazar Municipality, to quickly repair the road, ensure effective drainage systems, and permanently resolve waterlogging. They claim that it is the need of the hour to quickly renovate this important road in the hotel-motel zone to protect the image of tourism-dependent Cox’s Bazar and ensure safe and comfortable movement of tourists.
