Thakurgaon Takes on a New Look Ahead of President’s Arrival

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is visiting Thakurgaon for the first time after taking oath as the President. A festive atmosphere is prevailing throughout the district surrounding his visit. To welcome him, painting work is underway on the city’s roads, dividers and various establishments. Along with this, cleaning and beautification work is also underway. Along with the joy and excitement of the President’s arrival, new expectations have also been created among the people for the development of the district.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to arrive in his home district Thakurgaon on a two-day state visit on September 6 and 7. Work is underway to beautify important roads and various structures in the city ahead of the visit. Work is also underway to construct a civic reception stage on the large field of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School.

Traveling around the city, one can see that the road dividers are being repainted. Various areas along the roads are being cleaned. Various preparations are underway to make important structures and roads more attractive. Enthusiasm have been seen among the concerned as well as the common people to welcome the President.

Local resident Abu Helal said, “President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a son of our district. He is coming to Thakurgaon for the first time as president, it is a matter of great joy and pride for us. The city is being decorated to welcome him, and a festive atmosphere has been created among the people.”

Locals hope that the president’s visit will lead to new initiatives to solve various long-standing problems in Thakurgaon. They especially want effective steps to improve education, health, communication, and infrastructure. Teacher Seema Akter said, “We are proud that the president is from our district. We also have high expectations of him. We especially hope that he will play a role in expanding educational opportunities, creating higher education opportunities, and providing employment opportunities for the youth.”

Local resident Sarwar Babu said, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has already played a huge role in the development of Thakurgaon in just a few months during his tenure as minister. Among them, he has taken many other initiatives including opening Thakurgaon University, Thakurgaon Medical College and Hospital, and an airport, and their work is ongoing. Even then, we need further development of healthcare and communication systems in Thakurgaon. Many problems have existed for a long time. Our expectation from the president is that he will look into these issues seriously and take initiatives to solve the long-standing problems of the people of the district.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been tightened around the President’s visit. Surveillance has been increased on important roads, establishments and event venues. Members of the law enforcement agencies have also been put on alert. Members of the Special Security Force, assigned to the President’s security, have already arrived in Thakurgaon and started security preparations.

Thakurgaon Police Superintendent Md. Belal Hossain said, security has been beefed up on various roads and important places in the district ahead of the President’s visit on September 6 and 7. We will go into full security mode from September 5. Maximum security will be ensured at the President’s venue, roads and surrounding areas. The entire city will be covered in security blanket. On the first day of the visit, on Sunday, the President is scheduled to attend the grave visit of his parents and attend a civic reception. The foundation stone of Thakurgaon University is scheduled to be laid on the following Monday.

The image of Thakurgaon city is changing with a touch of color in anticipation of the arrival of the President. Last-minute preparations are underway across the city. On one hand, the joy of welcoming the President, on the other hand, new expectations for the development of the district – all of which are now waiting in a festive mood for the people of Thakurgaon.
