No Scope for Awami League to Participate in Local Elections: Mir Shahe Alam

There is no scope for the Awami League, a party whose activities are banned, to participate in local government elections, stated State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mr. Mir Shahe Alam. He made these remarks on Friday, September 11, at 11:00 AM after inaugurating a fish fry release program at the Shibganj Upazila Parishad pond in Bogura.

The State Minister said, ‘There is no question of a party whose activities are banned participating in elections in a partisan manner. Until the ban on the Awami League is lifted, they cannot take part in any elections under party banners. I feel embarrassed when asked questions about the Awami League.’

Regarding local government elections, State Minister Mr. Mir Shahe Alam stated that there is no scope for issuing party nominations in local government elections. Local government elections will be held neutrally; however, the BNP will extend support to a single candidate in each election.

He further stated that ensuring the voting rights of the people is their primary objective. Public representatives will be elected through the verdict of the people, not at the whim of any party or faction. Officials of the Shibganj upazila administration, public representatives, and political leaders were present on the occasion.
