BRICS Summit: Putin, Xi and Modi Send Message of Unity, Holding Hands in a Single Frame

The BRICS Summit 2026 has begun with a grand ceremony in India’s capital, New Delhi. The highlight of the summit has been a rare frame featuring the leaders of three major global powers. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping were seen holding hands on the same stage, sending a message of unity and mutual cooperation.

The historic moment was seen during the opening session of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on Saturday (September 12). Prime Minister Narendra Modi later posted the photograph on social media. In the picture, Mr. Putin and Xi Jinping can be seen standing on either side of Mr. Modi, holding hands with him. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, along with representatives of other member states, were also present in the frame.

According to political analysts, the image carries significant importance in the current geopolitical context. Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in India after seven years, while Russian President Putin reached Delhi on Friday. The summit and the joint photograph indicate new equations in the diplomatic relations among the three countries.

At the opening of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly called for protecting the interests of developing countries in the ‘Global South’. He said countries of the Global South should have a stronger role in global decision-making, and India is ready to provide them with the necessary skills and training support for international discussions.

At the same time, calling for urgent reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Modi said, “Security Council reform should no longer be kept pending. A specific timeline should be set and efforts should be made towards concrete outcomes.” He also called on BRICS member states to develop a specific roadmap to address global challenges over the next 20 years.
