Family of July Martyr Mugdha Pays Courtesy Visit to President

Family members of Mr. Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha, a martyr of the July mass uprising, paid a courtesy visit to President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Mugdha’s father Mr. Mir Mostafizur Rahman, his brother Mr. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, and family member Ms. Mahfuza Jafrin Ariba were present at the meeting.

They visited Bangabhaban yesterday, Sunday, for the courtesy call. The President asked about the family’s wellbeing and exchanged greetings with them. During the meeting, the family members briefed the President on the government’s steps for the welfare and rehabilitation of martyr families and the treatment of the injured from the July uprising.

They requested proper implementation of the government’s programs for the welfare of the families of martyrs and the injured. The family members also gifted the President a replica of the July Martyrs’ Memorial, which bears the names of 845 July martyrs published in the official gazette.

The President expressed deep respect and gratitude toward those martyred and injured in the July 2024 mass uprising. He said the nation will never forget the sacrifice of those who gave their lives and were injured in the struggle to free the country from fascism. He assured that the state would continue giving its highest cooperation for the welfare of martyr families and for the proper treatment and rehabilitation of the injured.

The President also prayed for the eternal peace of the souls of the July martyrs. Senior officials of Bangabhaban were present at the meeting.

National University VC Also Meets President

Professor Dr. A S M Amanullah, Vice Chancellor of the National University, paid a courtesy visit to President and National University Chancellor Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The meeting took place yesterday, Sunday, at Bangabhaban, according to a press release sent by the National University.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor presented an overall picture of the university’s education, research, and academic activities to the President. He also briefed the President on the initiatives taken in the university’s education and administrative work over the past two years since he took office, and the changes these initiatives aim to bring.

He spoke about several efforts, including setting up district based performing arts colleges, establishing a college for students with disabilities, publishing exam results faster, giving more importance to English and ICT education, running nationwide teacher training programs, expanding technical and vocational education, and working jointly with various institutions at home and abroad.

He also informed the President about steps taken by the National University to improve education quality in colleges in remote areas. The press release further said that President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir praised these initiatives and expressed hope of providing all necessary support, as Chancellor, to advance the university’s education reform and development work.

During the meeting, the President was also briefed on the university’s role in implementing various government decisions and initiatives. The Vice Chancellor spoke about steps already taken to modernize the curriculum and syllabus to make the education system more practical and suited to the times.

The delegation included Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Hossain, Acting Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies Professor Dr. Md. Ashek Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar Mr. Molla Mahfuz Al Hossain, Director of the Regional Centre Coordination Office Mr. Aminul Akter, and Director of the Internal Audit Office Mr. Jasim Uddin.

President Calls on Coast Guard to Take More Effective Measures

Rear Admiral Mr. Md. Moinul Hasan, Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, paid a courtesy visit to President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban. The President’s Press Secretary Mr. Md. Sarwar Alam later shared this information.

During the meeting, the President called on the Coast Guard to take more effective steps to maintain law, order, and security in coastal areas, prevent drugs, smuggling, and human trafficking, protect fisheries and natural resources, and guard against environmental harm and water pollution.

He said the current government is firmly committed to building the Coast Guard into a modern and capable force to protect the country’s vast coastal region and maritime boundary. He said the government is working to modernize the force and ensure proper training for its members. He also urged the Coast Guard to remain alert against illegal fishing in the country’s maritime waters.

During the meeting, the Director General briefed the President on the force’s overall activities and on progress in strengthening its capacity, including acquiring new patrol boats and modern rescue helicopters and setting up an aviation wing. The Director General sought the President’s cooperation in carrying out the force’s duties. The President assured him of full cooperation for the development of the force.
