Commitment to Strengthen Security, Law Enforcement, and Cybercrime Control

Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen called on Home Minister Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed at his ministry office in the Secretariat on Monday, reaffirming China’s role as the country’s primary development partner and top foreign investor. During the courtesy meeting, Ambassador Mr. Yao announced the conclusion of his tenure in early October, while extending greetings from China’s Minister of Public Security and inviting the Home Minister to attend the Chinese Public Security Forum. The high-level bilateral discussions focused on security, law enforcement, cybercrime control, technical capacity building, and institutional training exchanges between the two nations.

Emphasizing technical augmentation, the meeting highlighted recent collaborative achievements between Dhaka and Beijing. Over the past two years, China has trained more than a hundred members of Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies across various key operational domains, including cybercrime prevention, public security management, traffic control, immigration, and UN peacekeeping missions. Expressing gratitude for this continuous capacity-building support, Home Minister Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed outlined ongoing government initiatives to form a specialized Cyber Security Unit and modernize police infrastructure with digital forensic labs extending from local police stations to the central unit.

To further assist Bangladesh in combating cyber threats, Ambassador Mr. Yao recommended sending a delegation of Bangladeshi experts to inspect Chinese cyber labs and technical facilities. In response, the Home Minister announced that a five-member high-level delegation, led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and comprising an Additional IGP, an Additional DIG, and specialized cyber police experts, will soon visit China. This expert team will observe Chinese forensic technology and cyber lab models to draft specific actionable recommendations for establishing and equipping digital forensic laboratories across Bangladesh.

Focusing on economic ties and security guarantees, Ambassador Mr. Yao requested the government to ensure complete safety for Chinese citizens, entrepreneurs, and investors currently residing in the country. In reply, Home Minister Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed reaffirmed that China remains one of Bangladesh’s major strategic development partners and top foreign investors. He pledged the present government’s firm commitment to ensuring the highest level of safety and protection for all Chinese nationals, business professionals, and development project personnel working across Bangladesh.
