Gaza War Death Toll Surpasses 70,000: Dr Khalilur Rahman at UN
President of the United Nations General Assembly Dr Khalilur Rahman has said Gaza has been reduced to rubble due to a lack of necessary assistance and protection.
The death toll from the ongoing bloody war in Gaza has surpassed 70,000, including thousands of innocent children. The entire Gaza Strip has been reduced to rubble due to a lack of necessary international assistance and protection.
He made the remarks while addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (September 22).
He said that alongside conflicts in Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar and the Middle East, the ongoing aggression in Gaza is completely destroying communities. Even amid such a critical situation, only a small portion of urgently needed humanitarian assistance has been able to reach Gaza, pushing the suffering of ordinary people to extreme levels.
He said the geographical or political contexts of the crises may differ, but the commitment to protecting civilians under the UN Charter can never be different.
Dr Khalilur Rahman warned that if the international community is to maintain the trust of people around the world, international humanitarian law, human rights principles and access for humanitarian assistance must never be applied selectively or according to convenience.
