Spanish PM Strongly Condemns Gaza Genocide at UN

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Spanish Prime Minister Mr. Pedro Sánchez called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to ensure fair representation for every region of the world, while also urging the abolition of the veto power held by its permanent members.

‘We need to reform our Security Council so that all regions of the world are fairly represented, and we must eliminate the veto power of the permanent members,’ Mr. Sánchez stated during his address. He further added that, as enshrined in the UN Charter, no nation, regardless of its power, can act as a judge in its own cause. He warned that the foundational principles of the international system are increasingly coming under threat.

According to him, peace, stability, and equal opportunity are currently under attack by political figures and governments seeking to drag the world back into a darker past. He noted that there is no need to name them individually, as everyone knows who they are and how they operate.

Highlighting Spain’s stance on global conflicts, Mr. Sánchez affirmed that Madrid has taken every possible measure to oppose any actions that violate the UN Charter. In this context, he specifically pointed to the sanctions imposed on Russia and the arms embargo placed on the Israeli government.

The Spanish PM reiterated Spain’s unequivocal and fierce condemnation of the genocide carried out by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza. Mr. Sánchez argued that multilateralism remains the most effective approach to addressing global interdependence, calling for renewed trust in the United Nations and concerted efforts to strengthen the organization.
