Renowned Children’s Author Akhtar Hossain Passes Away

Renowned children’s writer Mr. Akhtar Hossain has died. He passed away on Thursday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University. The news came as a profound loss to the literary community.

He leaves behind his two sons, Pantha and Promit, along with many relatives and admirers. Mr. Hossain had been suffering from cancer for a long time before his death.

Due to complications, he was first admitted to a hospital in Farmgate. He was later moved to BIRDEM Hospital, then to Green Life Hospital. Finally, he was admitted to Bangladesh Medical University, where he had been on life support since last Friday.

Mr. Hossain wrote for children and young readers for more than six decades. He published more than a hundred books during his lifetime. These included original works of rhyme and children’s literature, biographies, translations, and edited volumes.

For his contribution to literature, Mr. Hossain received the Bangla Academy Award, the Alaol Literary Award, and the Bhasha Shaheed Abdul Jabbar Memorial Medal, along with many other honors. He was also a Fellow of the Bangla Academy.

Mr. Akhtar Hossain was born on November 1, 1945, in Nurullahpur village in Lalpur Upazila, Natore.
