RUET Wins International Recognition for Search-and-Rescue Robot Research
Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) has won the Best Paper Award at an international conference for its research, competing with research papers from 14 countries across Europe, America and Asia. Assistant Professor Alok Kumar Pal of RUET’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and 20th-batch student Md Abu Talha Rony jointly received the award.
Their research focused on “Autonomous Aerial Vehicles and Field Robotics for Search and Rescue Operations.” The achievement came at the two-day fifth IEEE International Conference held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) on September 18 and 19.
The conference was jointly organised by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Bangladesh Chapter, with JUST serving as the host. Researchers and representatives from 14 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Singapore and Malaysia, participated both in person and online.
According to conference sources, researchers from the 14 countries submitted a total of 517 research papers. Following a selection process, only 145 papers were chosen for presentation, with an acceptance rate of around 28 percent. The two-day conference featured discussions on innovations in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The conference was formally inaugurated last Friday morning at the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building of JUST by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iarul Kabir. Ram Chandra Palsania, Senior Product Manager at Applied Materials Inc. in California, joined the conference virtually as a keynote speaker.
