Kazipur’s Char Residents Struggle as Unpaved Roads Fall into Disrepair

Students and local residents in Kazipur upazila, Sirajganj, are facing severe hardship due to the poor condition of a three kilometer dirt road. The road connects Charchhina Government Primary School, Majnabari High School, and Majnabari Government Primary School in the char, or river island, area. Years without repair have left the road broken and full of potholes in many places. Local residents have urged senior authorities to pave the road and take necessary action quickly.

A visit to the site last Tuesday found that large sections of the road had collapsed, creating big potholes. Farmers, traders, students, and ordinary residents now travel this road daily at great risk and inconvenience.

Residents of Majnabari said the dirt road was built 14 to 15 years ago and has seen no significant repair or development since. Over time, it has become nearly impassable. During the monsoon season, water collects in the potholes, making conditions worse and travel even more difficult.

Local auto rickshaw driver Mr. Mohammad Ali said the poor condition of the road makes it very hard to drive vehicles, and passengers face the same hardship. He said paving the road would ease the long standing suffering of local residents.

Students of Majnabari High School, including Mr. Yasin Ali, Mr. Manik Mia, Ms. Iba Akter, and Mr. Abu Sayed, said they must travel this broken road to school every day. They said the bad road conditions cause serious problems, especially during the rainy season.

Local traders Mr. Manik and Mr. Moni said the poor road condition creates many problems for transporting goods and conducting business. They said paving the road would improve both local trade and communication.

Headteachers from Majnabari High School, Majnabari Government Primary School, and Charchhina Government Primary School, including Mr. Md. Kamal Uddin, said the road has remained in poor condition for a long time. About a thousand students from these schools use this single road every day. They said repeated discussions with local representatives have not led to any effective solution, and they urged proper authorities to intervene to end the public suffering.

Acting Chairman of Mansur Nagar Union Parishad Ms. Sonia Khatun said she has seen the road herself. She noted that students, teachers, worshippers, farmers, traders, and the general public all use this road, and its condition is poor. She said she has already raised the issue with senior authorities and will do so again to help resolve this long standing problem.
