President Xi Ends U.S. Visit, Sets November Trump Summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping has departed Washington following the conclusion of his three-day visit to the United States, promising to meet again with U.S. President Donald Trump in China this coming November.
On the final day of the visit, President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan joined President Trump for tea at the White House before their departure. Following this warm meeting in the famous Red Room, the two leaders visited the National Archives to view historical documents reflecting the bilateral relationship between both nations. Subsequently, after taking leave of President Trump and the First Lady, the couple departed for China from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Reflecting on the historical friendship between the two nations at the beginning of their meeting, President Trump referred to China as an ally during World War II. Highlighting the shared history of joint resistance against Japan, President Trump noted, ‘If we focus on our common interests, we can achieve great things’.
He added, ‘Driven by these common interests, our two peoples crossed vast oceans and transcended differences to come together, even becoming friends and allies in World War II’. The upcoming summit scheduled for November on Chinese soil is expected to further strengthen bilateral and commercial ties between the two countries.
