Bangladesh is one of Asia’s emerging and key markets: Madrid Chamber of Commerce

Spanish business leaders and entrepreneurs see vast trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh across key sectors including textiles, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, renewable energy, agribusiness, information technology, logistics, and consumer goods. Highlighting Bangladesh as one of Asia’s emerging and vital markets, Ángel Asensio, President of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, noted that the nation is steadily progressing toward sustainable growth and economic stability.
Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Bangladesh: A Strategic Partner in the Global Economy’ in Madrid, Spain, Mr. Asensio emphasized that the European Union remains one of Bangladesh’s premier trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching approximately €23.3 billion in 2025. He detailed the immense market potential offered by Bangladesh, framing the nation as a central hub for future European investments.
Underlining the prospects for green investment, Mr. Asensio stated that Bangladesh presents an estimated $172 billion market in green investment opportunities from 2018 to 2030 across sectors such as green buildings, transportation, climate-smart agriculture, infrastructure, and waste management. He also identified export diversification as both a primary challenge and a significant growth opportunity for Bangladesh’s economy.
Md. Fazlul Hoque, Administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), urged European business leaders to invest in Bangladesh, noting that the current government is actively encouraging foreign direct investment. He highlighted planned initiatives, such as offering land free of charge to investors in sectors like renewable energy, logistics, and infrastructure, under arrangements where the government would purchase power at a fixed rate.
The event featured key dignitaries including Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Spain, Md. Masudur Rahman, and EuroCham Bangladesh President Nuria Lopez. Panelists included Pablo Araujo, International Trade Consultant; Tariq Elba, Executive Vice President for Asia and Africa at Molins; and Ana Rodes, Global Director of Sustainability at Recover, alongside FBCCI Secretary General Md.
