Action Under Treason Law if Police Share Information with Fascists: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that some police personnel are still in contact with fascists and are sharing various types of information with them. He warned that if accused police members violate discipline, departmental action as well as action under the treason law will be taken against them.
He made the remarks at a police medal distribution ceremony at Rajarbagh in the capital at around 11am on Saturday.
The Home Minister said those who killed people in the country occasionally issue threats from abroad. “If they seek to destabilise the country, they will be dealt with firmly,” he said. He also announced rewards for those who bring associates of the fascist Awami forces under the law.
He said a cyber security unit would be formed next week, with branches at the metropolitan, divisional and district levels. Modern equipment for the cyber security units will be available at police station and district levels, while large-scale forensic laboratories and other necessary support facilities will be established at the headquarters and divisional levels.
Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We have seen that crimes committed through cyberspace are a characteristic of modern crime trends. In some countries, up to 44 percent of crimes are cyber- or scam-based. That is why we have to give this issue importance.”
