Initiative Underway to Extract Gas from Bay of Bengal for Power Generation

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul said the government is arranging, through international level talks, to extract gas from beneath the Bay of Bengal. He said there are plans to use this gas for power generation, and noted that India is extracting gas from all sides beneath the Bay of Bengal, while Bangladesh’s own gas is also draining away underground.

He made these remarks as chief guest at a discussion meeting held yesterday, Sunday afternoon, at the Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy, on what leaders and workers of the district BNP and its affiliated bodies should do in response to allegations of planned sabotage aimed at destabilizing the country.

At the meeting, the minister said that if those who are constitutionally barred from doing politics in Bangladesh, and whose past record includes killings, enforced disappearances, looting and silencing people’s voices, try to obstruct the country’s democratic journey, no form of militant activity will be allowed on Manikganj soil.
