Arrival of Winter in Panchagarh: Temperature Drops to 15.5 Degrees in Tetulia

Panchagarh is witnessing a distinct early arrival of winter, characterized by blazing sunshine during the day and chilly winds descending from the Himalayas after dusk. As night deepens, the cold intensifies and maintains a wintry ambiance until dawn, before giving way to rising heat once the sun emerges. This unique climatic pattern has noticeably altered the daily routines of residents.

According to the Tetulia Meteorological Observatory, the minimum temperature dropped to 15.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday at 6:00 AM, accompanied by a high humidity level of 99 percent. This marked a further 0.2-degree decrease from the previous day’s minimum of 15.7 degrees Celsius, continuing a gradual downward trend in nighttime temperatures.

In sharp contrast to the morning chill, daytime temperatures remain remarkably high. The district recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, creating a massive temperature gap of 18.1 degrees Celsius between day and night. Consequently, residents find little relief from the heat during daylight hours while simultaneously battling the sharp cold at night and early morning.

Explaining the phenomenon, Jitendranath Roy, the acting officer of the Tetulia Meteorological Observatory, stated that clear skies over the past few days have allowed temperatures to plummet under the influence of cold winds from the Himalayas. He further noted that once rain-prone conditions completely dissipate between October 31 and November 1, the sensation of winter is expected to intensify further, bringing more noticeable temperature drops at the start of November.

Amidst this transitional weather, locals are advised to wear light warm clothing for protection against the night and dawn chill. Authorities warn that if temperatures continue to decline, winter-related suffering could escalate, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
