Bangladesh, China to Strengthen Cooperation in Cybersecurity and Law Enforcement
Bangladesh and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in law enforcement and cybersecurity. The pledge was made during a farewell meeting between outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad at the Secretariat on Monday.
During the cordial discussions, both sides reviewed key areas of collaboration, including cybersecurity, crime prevention, technical capacity building, and training exchange programs.
Ambassador Yao informed the minister that his tenure will conclude in early October. He conveyed greetings from China’s Minister of Public Security and extended an official invitation to the Home Minister to visit China for ministerial-level security talks.
Highlighting joint efforts in capacity building, Ambassador Yao noted that over the past two years, China has trained more than 100 Bangladeshi law enforcement personnel in cybercrime, public safety, traffic management, immigration, and UN peacekeeping operations.
Expressing gratitude for Beijing’s support, the Home Minister announced that Bangladesh is establishing a specialized Cybersecurity Unit within its police force, alongside digital forensic labs across police stations, districts, and divisions.
To inspect Chinese facilities and acquire technical expertise, Bangladesh will send a five-member high-level delegation led by an Additional IGP from the CID to visit China and prepare technical proposals for establishing domestic forensic facilities.
Highlighting China as Bangladesh’s top development partner and investor, Ambassador Yao requested ensured safety for Chinese nationals, businesses, and investors in Bangladesh.
Minister Salahuddin Ahmad reiterated the government’s firm commitment to ensuring the highest level of security for Chinese personnel and investment projects across the country.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, CID Chief Barrister Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain, and Additional Secretary Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed.
