Bangladesh Seeks China’s Cooperation in Blue Economy and Disaster Management
Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan has emphasized strengthening long-term bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and China, highlighting strong potential in the blue economy, human resource development, and disaster management. He made these remarks on Monday as the chief guest at the second roundtable on “Bangladesh-China Governance Experience Sharing” in Dhaka.
“Through storm, rain, or shine, friendly ties between China and Bangladesh continue uninterrupted,” Dr. Milan said. He noted how China transformed its large population into an economic asset and urged leveraging Bangladesh’s current demographic dividend, where nearly 65 percent of the population is of working age.
Recalling former President Ziaur Rahman’s 1981 initiative to explore maritime resources, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to building a skilled workforce.
To align academia with industry, the government aims to increase the education budget from 2 to 5 percent of GDP. Drawing from his recent visit to China, Dr. Milan expressed interest in replicating Chinese polytechnic and technical training models in Bangladesh.
Addressing climate challenges, he stressed developing independent satellite and domestic technology for flood forecasting rather than relying solely on upper-riparian data.
Concluding his address, Dr. Milan voiced optimism that educational collaboration will deepen bilateral ties and welcomed Chinese technical expertise in disaster management and maritime development.
