Bangladesh to Import LNG and LPG from Algeria

A new horizon of cooperation has opened between Bangladesh and Algeria following a high-level meeting in Algiers, aimed at expanding energy partnership, bilateral trade, and investment. The Bangladeshi delegation was led by Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, alongside State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Algeria. Discussions centred on transforming current ties into a robust economic alliance by exploring mutual growth across diverse sectors like agriculture, education, technology, and culture.
Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud emphasised the vast potential for multifaceted collaboration, calling for effective initiatives in energy trade and investment to benefit both populations. Furthermore, he urged Algerian authorities to facilitate knowledge exchange, specialised training, and technical cooperation to enhance the skills of Bangladeshi engineers and energy professionals through international best practices.
A key highlight of the talks was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on hydrocarbon cooperation. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir expressed strong satisfaction with this milestone, noting that it creates new avenues for importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and other petroleum products from Algeria on a government-to-government basis.
Reaffirming his nation’s commitment, the PM of Algeria stated that Algeria attaches high importance to strengthening relations with Bangladesh. He highlighted significant opportunities for complementary cooperation in business, trade, and investment. At the same time, State Minister Humayun Kabir underscored that regular high-level visit exchanges will inject crucial momentum into long-term diplomatic ties.
