Call to promote transgender issues goes against religious values: Maulana Muhiuddin Rabbani

Maulana Muhiuddin Rabbani, Secretary General of International Majlis e Tahaffuze Khatme Nabuwat Bangladesh, has condemned and protested a speech by Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon. The minister had called for more awareness campaigns on transgender issues. Mr. Rabbani shared his concern in a statement sent to the media on Friday (30 October).

In the statement, Mr. Rabbani said the creation of men and women is part of the rules set by Allah. He said that changing the gender of a person born as a woman or a man through surgery and hormones is forbidden under Islamic Shariah. He added that spreading such acts goes against religious belief and moral values.

Mr. Rabbani also said Islam teaches people to protect the dignity of every human being. However, he said there is no room to justify acts against Shariah in the name of humanity. He warned that if the education system is used to spread such ideas, it could harm the religious faith and morals of the new generation.

In the statement, Mr. Rabbani asked the Education Minister to take back his words. He also demanded that the government protect Islamic belief, religious values and moral education in the country’s education system.
