China Launches ‘Green Channel’ for Bangladeshi Patients

A specialised ‘Green Channel’ has been inaugurated at Huaxia Eye Hospital in Kunming, China, on Saturday, October 24, to streamline advanced ophthalmic care for Bangladeshi patients. Launched by Shahnaz Ranu, Consul General of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming, this initiative represents the first dedicated medical facility for Bangladeshi eye patients in southwestern China. First Secretary (Commercial) Ridwanur Rahman and Huaxia Eye Hospital Vice President Zhang Zhiyong were also present at the ceremony, alongside the concurrent inauguration of the ‘Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026’.
The newly introduced pathway creates a seamless end-to-end framework to support medical travellers before, during, and after their treatment in China. Under this system, patients can obtain pre-departure consultations and medical record evaluations to verify treatment necessities before travelling. Upon arrival at Huaxia Eye Hospital, they benefit from priority appointments, dedicated international desk assistance, and professional interpreter services to overcome language barriers, followed by structured post-treatment consultations once they return home to Bangladesh.
Highlighting the advancements in Bangladesh’s domestic public health sector, Consul General Shahnaz Ranu emphasised the paramount necessity of delivering safe, high-quality, and dignified healthcare services to Bangladeshi citizens. She stated that the Bangladesh Consulate General expects the provision of quality and safe medical care for Bangladeshi patients, transparency in treatment costs, and the preservation of patient dignity. Furthermore, she urged the host institution to maintain fair pricing and cost transparency across all patient care procedures.
To maximise long-term bilateral healthcare benefits, Ms. Shahnaz Ranu called upon the Huaxia Hospital administration to actively assist in enhancing the capacity of Bangladesh’s eye care infrastructure. She proposed establishing direct institutional partnerships, extending remote medical consultations, and facilitating practical training programs for Bangladeshi ophthalmologists and nurses. This initiative opens vital avenues for institutional collaboration and technical knowledge sharing in ophthalmology between Bangladesh and China.
