CJP Gives Delhi Police 24-Hour Ultimatum

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has given Delhi Police 24 hours to set a new date for a protest at Jantar Mantar in India’s capital. The party’s co-coordinator Ashutosh Ranka warned that they would announce their next course of action if the police failed to respond within the deadline.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Mr. Ranka visited Parliament Street Police Station on Monday (October 12) with another CJP co-coordinator, Saurav Das. They demanded that a new date be set for holding the protest at Jantar Mantar.
Mr. Ranka said Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site and that they had approached the police to find out when they would be allowed to hold their demonstration. He said the police must inform them of the protest date within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, the party would announce its next course of action.
On October 10, Delhi Police denied permission for the CJP’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar. The police cited the short notice given by the organisers, alleged violations of rules during previous protests, and concerns over public safety, traffic and law and order.
According to the police, they were informed about the proposed protest on October 7, just three days before the planned event. However, under the established rules, applications for protests must be submitted at least 10 days in advance.
The CJP had planned the protest to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was part of the party’s ongoing campaign against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Delhi Police alleged that a previous CJP protest had continued beyond its permitted time and led to a deterioration in the law and order situation. However, the party continues to press for permission to hold a fresh protest at Jantar Mantar.
