Country’s First AI-Generated Film ‘Gap’ Set for Release

A new chapter is unfolding in Bangladeshi cinema with ‘GAP’, the country’s first full-length artificial intelligence (AI) powered film, receiving official clearance for release. The Bangladesh Film Certification Board granted the film an uncut clearance certificate for public exhibition.

Directed by Mabrur Rashid Bannah, the short film received praise from the certification board members during its screening. The cast and creative team represented in AI-generated roles and contributions include AI visual artist Ark Shihab, director Mabrur Rashid Bannah, Rizvi Riju, Synthia Yasmin Nupur, Mistey Ghosh, Momena Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Rafi, and Jahangir Alam, among others.

Reflecting on the project, director Bannah noted that the film stands as a bold experiment in the history of Bengali cinema. While a fully AI-driven production initially seemed improbable to many, the team persevered, leveraging advanced international AI technologies over an extensive development period to craft every scene.

He added that receiving an uncut certification serves as significant recognition for the entire team, expressing hope that ‘GAP’ demonstrates how high-quality international-standard work can be achieved despite budget and manpower constraints.

According to production sources, major elements of the film, including the screenplay, character design, animation, background score, and visual effects, were developed using artificial intelligence. Produced by Akbar Haider Munna, the film is scheduled for release on the Club Eleven Entertainment YouTube channel on October 31.
