Dengue could take a dangerous turn, warns State Minister for Health
The deadly dengue situation could take a dangerous turn this season. The Health Ministry is keeping constant watch to control the spread of dengue in the country. State Minister for Health Dr. A M A Muhith said 13 people have died of dengue so far this year.
He made these remarks at a briefing at the National Parliament tunnel on Sunday (6 September) afternoon. The State Minister for Health said data indicates dengue cases could rise from the last week of September through October, so everyone needs to become alert before October — otherwise, the situation could take a dangerous turn.
He said dengue deaths this year are still lower than last year, but that to keep the situation under control, field-level anti-dengue efforts will be intensified from tomorrow, involving the public, alongside awareness campaigns on social media.
Calling on the media to play an important role in preventing dengue, he said all places, from educational institutions to hospitals, must be kept clean, and effective steps must be taken to keep the capital Dhaka free of mosquito breeding grounds.
He further said dengue prevention is not the government’s responsibility alone — field-level activities must be carried out with public involvement. He called on everyone to stay aware and cautious throughout September and October.
