Dhruv Rathee Released with Warning

Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has been released by the police, though authorities warned that fresh action could be taken against him if he attempts to join the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, according to official sources on Sunday, October 11.
Mr. Rathee, a Germany-based content creator and a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, had arrived in Delhi to participate in a CJP-led demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Police detained Mr. Rathee alongside several others from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 before the rally. While most detainees were released late Saturday night, Rathee remained in custody longer. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijit Deepak and co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were also detained by Delhi Police upon their arrival in the national capital.
Shortly before Mr. Rathee’s release, Delhi Police stated that the three party leaders were taken into preventive custody and would be produced before an Executive Magistrate. According to police, action was initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Section 126 empowers authorities to demand a bond for maintaining peace, while Section 170 provides for preventive arrest to avert cognizable offenses.
