Dr. Khalilur Rahman Exchanges Greetings with Lavrov & Trump at the UN

During the high level week of the UN General Assembly’s 81st session, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister and General Assembly President Dr. Khalilur Rahman exchanged greetings with Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergei Lavrov and US President Mr. Donald Trump.

Mr. Sergei Lavrov wished Dr. Khalilur Rahman success in his role as Foreign Minister and General Assembly President. He expressed hope that the current session would help countries work together to address various global challenges and threats.

Mr. Lavrov made these remarks during a meeting with Dr. Khalilur Rahman on September 23 in New York, during the high level week of the session. This information came from a statement by the Russian embassy.

Both sides discussed various items on the session’s agenda. They highlighted the importance of the General Assembly’s role as a representative forum for dialogue between nations. They also stressed the need to improve the General Assembly’s internal environment and restore dialogue based on mutual respect.

Mr. Lavrov expressed hope that the session’s proceedings would be conducted professionally and remain free of politicization.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman also exchanged greetings with US President Mr. Donald Trump on the sidelines of the session. Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who currently serves as President of the General Assembly, shared this information in a post on his verified Facebook page.

He shared a photo from the conversation and wrote that it was a personal greeting exchange with US President Mr. Trump. The brief exchange took place after Mr. Trump’s address to the UN General Assembly. Mr. Trump thanked Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister during the exchange.
