Effective Teaching, Regular Monitoring Key to Learning Outcomes: Bobby Hajjaj

Effective classroom teaching and regular monitoring are essential to ensuring quality education and helping students achieve expected learning outcomes, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.

If a student fails to achieve the expected results, the underlying causes must be identified and addressed, he said. While teachers and parents share responsibility for effective teaching and a conducive learning environment, teachers play the leading role in the classroom.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the Challenged Students Conference 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Saturday. Gonosakkhorota Abhijan and Plan International Bangladesh jointly organised the event.

Emphasising regular teacher assessment, Mr Hajjaj said teachers entered the profession to provide quality education, making it necessary to assess their skills and teaching methods.

Describing device addiction as a major social challenge, he said excessive dependence on smartphones and digital devices was hindering the development of young people and society. Families, educational institutions and society must work together to curb harmful technology use and maintain a healthy learning environment.

On curriculum reform, he said curricula should be reviewed regularly as knowledge and skill requirements change. However, reforms should be based on research, long-term planning and consultations with stakeholders rather than introduced abruptly, to avoid placing additional pressure on teachers, students and parents.

Addressing students who had not achieved their expected results, Mr Hajjaj said there were many paths to success and hard work was the key.

Gonosakkhorota Abhijan Executive Director Rasheda K. Choudhury chaired the event. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr Mahdi Amin attended as a special guest.

Dr Iram Mariam, chairperson of the Gonosakkhorota Abhijan Council; Plan International Bangladesh Country Director Kavita Bose; and Dr Arifur Rahman also spoke.
