Hasina Has No Chance of Returning in December or Any Other Month; Gallows Await if She Does: NCP’s Nahid Warns

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Whip of the Opposition, has said that there is no chance for Sheikh Hasina to return to Bangladesh in any December. He also said that if she returns, the gallows will be ready for her, InshaAllah.

He made these remarks on Saturday afternoon, November 7, at a programme at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mohammad Ruhul Amin Auditorium of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). The National Chhatra Shakti organised the programme. It included a welcome event for new students and a prize-giving ceremony for a competition titled ‘Students’ Thoughts on the July Mass Uprising’. Nahid Islam was the chief guest.

Nahid Islam said that the students and people of Bangladesh have not fallen asleep, and the universities have not fallen asleep either. He said the students must prove this. He urged them not to limit their movements to demanding a separate Noakhali division. Instead, they should think about the whole country and the whole world. He said this is what a university means.

He also urged university students to gain knowledge and skills about the world. He said students must know what people are thinking and what is happening in different parts of the world. They must prepare themselves for the global job market. They should not think only about jobs in Bangladesh. They should also think about how they can build their careers in other countries.

Speaking about November 7, the NCP convener said that they recognise the importance of the day. He called November 7 a revolution and asked whether the July Mass Uprising was not also a revolution. He said the current government calls something a revolution when it supports their position. But when something does not support them, or when they did not lead it, they call it only a movement or a mass uprising.

He asked the students present at the event, “We consider November 7 a revolution, and we also consider the July Revolution a revolution. Isn’t that right?”

Speaking about the possible return of someone to Bangladesh next December, Nahid Islam said that someone reportedly wants to return to the country next December. He asked the students whether they knew about it and whether they were ready. He also asked whether they were as ready as they had been during the July Mass Uprising. He questioned whether the resistance this time would be stronger or weaker than before.

Nahid Islam also expressed anger over the lack of justice. He said they had shown a lot of kindness before and had forgiven others. In the words of Osman Hadi, they had said that they would ensure fairness and justice even for their enemies. But they had received no justice in the last two years. They had not received justice for the killing of Osman Hadi or for the killing of those who died in the July uprising. He said that when people do not get justice, they start building resistance on their own.

NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Sarjis Alam, Joint Convener and Member of Parliament Abdul Hannan Masud, and Joint Convener Nizam Uddin also spoke at the event as special guests.

National Chhatra Shakti Central President Abu Bakar Majumder, General Secretary Tahmid Al Musaddiq Chowdhury and other central leaders were also present.
