HSC, Equivalent Exam Candidates Who Failed One or Two Subjects to Get Second Chance Within a Month

Students who failed one or two subjects in the HSC and equivalent examinations will get a special opportunity to retake the exams. They will be allowed to sit for only the failed subjects within one month of the publication of the results. A total of 422,905 candidates failed in one or two subjects this year.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon inaugurated the publication of the HSC and equivalent examination results at a programme organised by the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat on Saturday (October 31). The education minister and Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin announced the initiative.

The prime minister’s adviser said, “At the direction of the honourable education minister, we have decided for the first time to arrange re-examinations for those who fail in one or two subjects.”

Under the existing rules, students who fail one or more subjects in public examinations such as the SSC and HSC must wait until the following year to retake the exams. They can sit for only the failed subjects or choose to retake all subjects. As a result, even students who fail just one or two subjects have to wait nearly a year for another opportunity.

This long wait can delay students’ academic progress and increase their mental stress. The new initiative will allow students who fail one or two subjects to retake the exams sooner and improve their results.
