Ignoring Sharia Law Amounts to Defiance of Allah

The Property Transfer Bill (2026) introduced in the National Parliament conflicts with Islamic law, and no law contrary to the Quran and Sunnah will be allowed to take effect in Bangladesh, leaders said, calling any law that ignores or bypasses Sharia provisions an act of defiance against Allah. They warned the government that if the matter is not resolved, a mass movement will be launched, and called for spreading Islam’s core teachings throughout society to protect the interests of elderly citizens and parents. Leaders of various Islamic parties made these remarks at nationwide protest rallies held after Friday prayers yesterday against passage of the Property Transfer Bill (2026).
Islami Andolan Bangladesh: The party said the government’s amendment to the heba (gift) provision within Islamic inheritance law conflicts with Islamic law, and that the amendment’s intent and effect is to bypass and ignore Islam’s definitive inheritance rules. While a Muslim’s everyday failure to observe some Sharia provisions may be a forgivable matter before Allah, they said, legislating to bypass a Sharia provision amounts to defiance against Allah — something no government should be allowed to do in a country that is 91% Muslim. Leaders made these remarks at rallies and marches organized by the party’s central leadership in divisional cities including Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Rajshahi, demanding the government withdraw the law and reiterating that no law contrary to Quran and Sunnah would be allowed to stand.
Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish: The party held nationwide protests after Friday prayers demanding repeal of the bill, with marches and rallies held in Dhaka, Gazipur, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Cumilla, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Habiganj, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Maijdee, Chowmuhani, Chhatak, Bijoynagar, and Shahrasti, among other districts and upazilas. In Dhaka, a rally was held at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque’s north gate before a march through several roads, presided over by Dhaka South unit president Mr. Maulana Sanaullah Amini and jointly conducted by Dhaka North general secretary Mr. Murshid Siddiqui and Dhaka South general secretary Mr. Maulana Rakibul Islam. Chief guest and party Secretary General Mr. Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed called the bill a deliberate, ill-intentioned move to reopen a long-settled property system for controversy, and alleged that “Western agents” within the government are working against the country’s social culture and Islamic values.
Khelafat Majlish: Secretary General Dr. Mr. Ahmad Abdul Kader said the amendment disregards Sharia and that Islamic values must take precedence in any legislation touching sensitive matters like property transfer, heba, and inheritance for Muslims, warning that ignoring Sharia in such matters risks social unrest in a Muslim-majority society. He accused the government of rushing the bill through parliament to please Law Minister Mr. Kader and hurting the religious sentiments of the majority, demanding an explanation. He spoke as chief guest at a rally following a march organized by Dhaka Metropolitan unit after Friday prayers at Baitul Mokarram’s north gate, presided over by Dhaka South Khelafat Majlish president Professor Mr. Maulana Azizul Haque. Other speakers included Deputy Ameer Mr. Maulana Sakhawat Hossain, Mr. Maulana Ahmad Ali Kasemi, Joint Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Muntasir Ali, Advocate Mr. Mizanur Rahman, Professor Mr. Kazi Minhazul Alam, and Dhaka North president Mr. Maulana Saifuddin Ahmed Khandaker.
Khelafat Andolan: Ameer Mr. Maulana Habibullah Miazi demanded immediate repeal of what he called an anti-Islamic property transfer law passed under the guise of civic convenience, calling the “Transfer of Property 2026” act entirely contrary to the Quran and saying no believing Muslim could support it. He said the country’s 92% Muslim population did not elect representatives to parliament to pass anti-Quranic laws, and that Islamic scholars and devout people at every level have rejected it with contempt. He spoke as chair of a rally and march held yesterday after Friday prayers in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar, organized by Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan. Other speakers included Deputy Ameer Mr. Maulana Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, Mr. Mufti Sultan Mohiuddin, and Mr. Mufti Abul Hasan Kasemi, followed by a protest march.
