We May Have Gone Too Far on Iran:Trump, as US Struggles to Find Leaders for Talks

US President Donald Trump has admitted that the United States may have gone too far in its efforts to weaken Iran’s leadership during the ongoing military conflict. He said Washington’s aggressive approach had created such a leadership vacuum in Iranian politics that the US was now struggling to find an Iranian official capable of negotiating a possible peace agreement or making key decisions.

Responding to reporters’ questions at a Republican campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday (October 12), Trump said, “We may have gone too far with the leadership in Iran. We don’t even know who we’re dealing with or who we’re dealing with in Tehran. Nobody wants to be president of Iran.”

Mr. Trump said those Washington had considered potential new leaders were unwilling to take responsibility. He added, “Frankly, it’s become difficult for us to even decide who to negotiate with.” However, Mr. Trump also reiterated his claims of military success, saying Iran had lost all 159 of its naval vessels and its air force during the past eight months of fighting. According to him, the ships are now lying at the bottom of the sea.
