Islamic Rulings on Posting Hijab Photos on Facebook

Question : Is It Sinful to Upload Photos Wearing Hijab on Facebook? If a woman uploads a photo of herself wearing hijab on Facebook and others like the photo, is it sinful? Some people also comment “Mashallah” or “Subhanallah.” Are such comments permissible?
Answer: Uploading a photo while wearing a full hijab may not constitute a major sin if the face is not visible at all. Whether those who comment “Mashallah” or “Subhanallah” receive rewards or commit sins depends on their intentions. If they make such comments to encourage the practice of hijab, there is no sin in doing so.
However, if their intention is to establish a relationship or friendship with the woman, engage in positive teasing or satisfy their desires by admiring her appearance, they will be sinful. Misusing these sacred expressions in inappropriate contexts may also harm one’s faith. The woman who uploads the photo may share some responsibility for these sins, to a greater or lesser extent.
