Israeli strikes resume in Gaza amid ceasefire, killing 8 including journalist

At least eight Palestinians, including journalist Muhammad Abdul Aziz Al-Najjar, were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire. The attacks were carried out in several areas on Wednesday. Israeli strikes and gunfire have continued in Gaza despite the ceasefire, which took effect nearly a year ago.
Gaza’s Government Media Office said Al-Najjar worked as a presenter and producer at Quran Radio. He was killed in an Israeli drone strike in Al-Mawasi, northwest of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. He was working on a report on Quran memorisation when the attack took place.
Al-Najjar’s death brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 2023 to 263, according to the Government Media Office. He was also an imam at a mosque in Khan Younis.
Meanwhile, an Israeli drone strike on a passenger van in Tal Al-Hawa, southwestern Gaza City, killed at least five to six people. Witnesses and medical sources said 13 people were injured. They were taken to Al-Quds Hospital. Some of the injured are in critical condition.
The Palestine Red Crescent said its ambulance teams rescued the injured and took them to hospital. Citing doctors, Al Jazeera reported that some of the injured were in serious condition. Medical treatment has become difficult due to prolonged attacks, extensive damage to infrastructure and shortages of medical supplies.
Earlier, a woman was killed in an Israeli strike on a residential apartment near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Palestine’s official news agency Wafa reported. Several people were also reportedly injured in a drone strike on a shelter for displaced people on the same day.
Israeli attacks in Gaza have continued since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025. According to figures released by Gaza’s Health Ministry on Wednesday, 1,431 Palestinians have been killed and 5,026 injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began. Gaza’s Government Media Office has claimed that more than 5,100 ceasefire violations have been documented during the period.
More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured in Israel’s military operations and attacks in Gaza since October 2023, according to reports citing Palestinian health authorities. The prolonged conflict has caused extensive damage to residential areas, hospitals, communication systems and other civilian infrastructure.
