Italy and Inter Milan Legend Sandro Mazzola Dies at 83

Italy and Inter Milan football legend Sandro Mazzola died on Saturday at the age of 83. Inter Milan confirmed his death in a statement. Confirming Mr. Mazzola’s death, Inter Milan said on its website, “Sandro Mazzola is not only part of Inter Milan’s history. He was one of the greatest players in the history of football. After joining Inter as a child, Mr. Mazzola never left the club. This legend is the reflection of Inter’s soul.”

Mr. Mazzola spent his entire 17-year professional career at Inter Milan. He played 565 competitive matches for the club and scored 158 goals. During his time at the club, Mr. Mazzola won the league title four times. He also won the European Cup twice and the Intercontinental Cup twice.

Mr. Mazzola played for Italy for nearly 12 years. He made 70 appearances for the national team between 1963 and 1974 and scored 22 goals. Mr. Mazzola was part of the Italy team that won the European Championship in 1968 and finished runners-up at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He also played at the 1966 and 1974 World Cups.
