Jamaat Failed to Gain Public Trust Due to Deception: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that propaganda cannot be used to obstruct the government’s development activities. He said the opposition is announcing programmes to create confusion among the people.

He made the remarks while attending a discussion titled “The Role of the Government and Opposition in Establishing a Democratic State” at the National Press Club on Tuesday (September 22). He claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami has failed to gain public trust because of repeatedly deceiving the people.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also questioned whether only the ousted Awami League was involved in the recent incidents of crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on buses and trains in the capital and different parts of the country, or whether others were also involved.

The BNP acting secretary general said the fact that opposition programmes have not faced any kind of obstruction proves that a democratic environment exists in the country. Regarding the fuel price hike, BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political and Industries Affairs Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the government would still incur a loss of Tk 70 per litre of diesel even after the fuel price adjustment.

Current reporting also carries his calculation that diesel costs around Tk 205 per litre to procure, while the price had been Tk 115 before the latest adjustment. He said the government has to spend Tk 205 to purchase one litre of diesel because of the rise in global oil prices, while it had been selling diesel at Tk 115 per litre until recently. As a result, the government was incurring a loss of Tk 90 per litre. Even after the price adjustment, the loss has not been fully eliminated.

He repeated that the government would still incur a loss of Tk 70 per litre of diesel after the fuel price adjustment. He said the government has to spend Tk 205 to purchase one litre of diesel because of the rise in global oil prices, while diesel had been sold at Tk 115 per litre until recently.

As a result, the government was incurring a loss of Tk 90 per litre. Even after the price adjustment, the loss has not been fully eliminated.
