Janmashtami Today
Janmashtami, the holy birth festival of Lord Sri Krishna, is being celebrated today as a national holiday by the Hindu community nationwide with great religious significance and enthusiasm. In Hindu mythology, Lord Sri Krishna came in Bhadra on the eighth day of the waning moon with the goals of establishing justice, truth, and beauty, ensuring human welfare, and destroying evil forces. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have both issued their individual greetings to the country on this significant day, emphasising the importance of communal unity.
Various social, cultural, and religious groups, such as ISKCON, the Mahanagar Sarbajaneen Puja Committee, and the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, have organized wide-ranging events in addition to special broadcasts on national and private media. The Mahanagar Sarbajaneen Puja Committee has planned major celebrations at the Dhakeshwari National Temple, including a Sri Krishna Puja at night, a historic parade, and a Gita Yajna led by the Shankar Math and Mission of Sitakunda, Chattogram.
The prime minister’s special assistant, Mr. Bizon Kanti Sarkar, will be a special guest at the opening of the central Janmashtami parade at the Palashi crossroads, while Home Minister Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed will be the principal guest. Mahanagar Sarbajaneen Puja Committee President Mr. Gopal Chandra Debnath will preside over the ceremonial beginning event, which will be officially opened by Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam. The parade will end in Bahadur Shah Park in old Dhaka after passing by Jagannath Hall, Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, the High Court crossroads, Bangabazar, and Golap Shah Mazar.
To commemorate the celebrations, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has planned a full three-day program that will take place from September 3 to September 5. Srimad-Bhagavatam recitation, bhajan kirtan, bhog arati, mahaprasad distribution, cultural activities, religious performances, a kirtan fair, and community debates are all part of their planned events. To guarantee that believers participating in the holy holiday may do so effortlessly and peacefully, security and logistical protocols have been strengthened at every location.
