Lack of Paved Roads Leaves Faridpur’s Saltha Residents in Dire Straits

Residents of Purba Fulbaria village in Ballabhdi Union under Saltha Upazila of Faridpur are facing immense suffering due to the lack of a merely 300-foot paved road. Locals believe that laying a brick-paved surface on this stretch is urgently needed to ease their commute. According to Arman, a police official from Ballabhdi, an unpaved stretch of about 300 feet connects the paved road in front of Rabiul Munshi’s house in Purba Fulbaria to Kagdi Baor Andaghat. In the absence of proper paving or brick soling, residents face significant mobility issues, which worsen considerably during the rainy season.
Jasim, a local Juba Dal leader, noted that developing this short stretch with brick soling would substantially alleviate the long-standing distress of the community. It would enable farmers to smoothly transport harvested crops from the fields to their homes and carry harvested jute to Kagdi Baor for retting, a process currently severely hampered by the lack of passable access. Emphasising the public interest, locals have drawn the attention of the relevant authorities to quickly repair and improve the road, expressing hope that prompt action will be taken to bring the 300-foot stretch under brick soling.
Addressing the issue, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dabir Uddin stated, ‘We have received several applications for various road repairs. Through you, we have come to learn about the suffering caused by this 300-foot road. As new bricks arrive in the market, repair work on these roads will be carried out in phases. To relieve public suffering, brick soling will also be implemented on the 300-foot section from the paved road in front of Rabiul Munshi’s house to Kagdi Baor Andaghat.’
