LGED’s Tk 15 Crore Project: 3 Upazila Complexes Nearing Completion
Under the nationwide Rural Market Infrastructure Development Project, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has accelerated the construction of multi-storied commercial structures on government land in three Bogura upazilas. This plan, which would cost a total of 15 billion taka to implement, seeks to improve the rural market system, create jobs, raise government income, and promote socioeconomic development. The project has received more attention from the government, with representatives visiting the site regularly and keeping close watch for any irregularities. On June 30, Project Director Md. Mahbub Alam sent a letter to the LGED Bogura official requesting that construction speed up so that all buildings are ready for handover by October.
The two-storied commercial structures have a unique layout designed to accommodate a variety of company requirements. Hardware, cosmetics, and clothing are sold in separate store rooms on the top level, while open markets for necessities like fish, meat, and poultry are located on the first floor. Entrepreneurs will have more opportunities to start firms due to this planned growth of small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, MP, Acting General Secretary of the district BNP, has already launched the commercial building at Durgapur Haat in Kahalu Upazila and given it to the upazila administration; the allocation procedure is now in progress.
Particular upazila data show the vast amount of growth taking place across the area. According to Dupchanchia Upazila Engineer Abu Talim Hossain, a two-story structure at Taluch Haat with a project cost of 26.6 million taka has a total of 22 rooms, including four units at the two corners of the ground floor. The building at Dhape Haat was built for 31.3 million taka. The market at Jamuna Haat has 16 rooms above and an open ground floor, according to Shajahanpur Upazila Engineer Md. Rashed Imran. The project cost 24.2 million taka. Additionally, according to Kahalu Upazila Engineer Mr. Muktar Hossain Khan, Malancha Haat has an open ground floor with 14 shop rooms at 22.8 million taka, Kahalu Pourashava Haat has 14 rooms at 19.2 million taka, and Durgapur Haat costs 29.6 million taka with 15 shops upstairs.
As market construction work in the three upazilas nears completion, officials regularly inspect the sites to evaluate project progress, according to LGED Bogura Executive Engineer Md. Masuzzaman. Strict surveillance is being maintained to prevent negligence and irregularities in development implementation. This supervision ensures that timelines are strictly conformed to and structural requirements are not compromised. Before final handovers take place around the district, project directors, executive engineers, and local upazila engineering teams work together to ensure that every stage of completion precisely complies with accountability procedures.
Allocations for commercial shops will be given out by lottery, if needed, to chosen candidates who fit the Market (Establishment and Management) Act’s criteria. Freedom fighters, their dependents or July fighters, female entrepreneurs or company owners, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, anyone nominated by the Deputy Commissioner or their relatives, and members of the general public are all eligible to apply. The oversight and management committee may then reevaluate the monthly rental prices for the shops every three years. Initially, temporary allocations will be given for a period of five years based on a specified amount and monthly rent.
