National Programme Announced to Observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi (S)
The government has announced a national programme to observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi (S) on August 26. Various programmes have been planned to observe the day with due respect and religious solemnity. The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Wednesday and signed by Md Abubakar Siddique, public relations officer of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. According to the release, the programmes were finalized at an inter-ministerial meeting held on August 13 to discuss the observance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (S).
The meeting was chaired by Religious Affairs Secretary Munsi Alauddin Al Azad NDC. Director General of the Islamic Foundation Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baki, Additional Secretary (Hajj) Dr Ayatul Islam, Additional Secretary (Administration) Md Imtiaz Hossain and representatives of various ministries, departments and agencies were present at the meeting. As part of the programme, the President and the Prime Minister will issue separate messages marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi (S). On the day, the national flag will be hoisted at all government and semi-government offices, autonomous institutions, private buildings and installations of the armed forces. Important traffic islands, light posts, locations and roads across Dhaka city will be decorated with national and colourful flags, as well as banners bearing the Kalima Tayyiba.
Prayer gatherings will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Bangladesh Secretariat Mosque and mosques across the country. The divisional, district and upazila administrations, city corporations, municipalities and the Armed Forces Division will also organize discussion meetings and prayer gatherings within their respective jurisdictions. The Islamic Foundation will arrange religious programmes, seminars and talk shows on electronic media. It will also organize competitions in the Holy Quran recitation, Hamd and Naat, recitation of self-composed poems, cultural activities for students and Arabic sermon writing. A souvenir or special publication will also be published, while a month-long Islamic book fair will be organized at the southern premises of Baitul Mukarram Mosque. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media have been requested to broadcast special programmes marking the occasion. Newspapers have also been requested to publish special supplements.
Universities and other educational institutions across the country, district Shilpakala Academies, Shishu Academies and other cultural institutions, the Islamic Foundation, the Office of the Waqf Administrator, the Dhaka and Jeddah Hajj offices and other religious institutions have been instructed to organize discussion meetings, prayer gatherings, Hamd and Naat programmes, poetry recitation, cultural competitions and quiz contests. The programmes will focus on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (S), as well as the principles of peace, progress, harmony, tolerance, universal brotherhood, human rights and the dignity of women in Islam. The Bangladesh Shishu Academy will arrange various programmes for children, including Hamd and Naat, discussion meetings and essay competitions.
In addition, arrangements will be made to serve improved-quality food at all military and civilian hospitals, prisons, government children’s homes, child shelters, residential child development centres and old-age homes across the country on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (S). Bangladesh embassies and missions abroad will also observe the day with due respect. The relevant ministries and divisions have been instructed to take special measures to maintain peace and law and order throughout the observance.
