New Joint Committee Formed: Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Türkiye Unite to Combat ISIL

Four Middle Eastern countries have reached an agreement to jointly address the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS. Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Türkiye have formed a four-party committee to strengthen cooperation in the fight against ISIL and improve border security.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein disclosed the development in a recent interview with Al Jazeera. Mr. Hussein said several groups linked to ISIL are currently operating in Syrian territory near the Iraqi border. The four countries have decided to work together to counter the threat and dismantle terrorist networks operating in the region.
He also identified two main objectives behind the increased military activities along the Syrian border: preventing ISIL members from crossing into neighbouring countries and curbing illegal drug smuggling in border areas.
Al Jazeera said the full interview with the Iraqi foreign minister will be broadcast on Sunday at 21:00 Doha time (18:00 GMT).
