Passing of Masjid al-Haram Muadhin

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al-Madani, a senior muadhin of Masjid al-Haram, has passed away in the holy city of Makkah during Fajr prayers on Monday, September 21. The news of his demise was shared in a post on the official X account of Mr. Haramain Sharifain.

Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani was a key member of the Mukabbiriyyah at Masjid al-Haram. In addition to calling the Adhan, the muadhins serving in the Mukabbiriyyah are responsible for conveying the Imam’s Takbir to the worshippers as needed. Masjid al-Haram has a total of 24 regular muadhins, six of whom are assigned daily to deliver the calls for the five daily prayers and the first Adhan of Fajr. Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani was particularly renowned for reciting the Fajr Adhan and Takbir.

His last Adhan at Masjid al-Haram was delivered on 11 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448 AH. Numerous recordings of his voice remain, including calls to prayer as well as Hajj and Eid Takbirs. Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani was born in Madinah Munawwarah in 1397 AH and memorized the Holy Quran within his family. His journey as a muadhin began at the age of 15 when he called the Adhan at a local mosque in Madinah. In 1428 AH, he served as a muadhin at Masjid Al-Maddah in Madinah. Later, in 1439 AH, he was officially appointed as a muadhin of Masjid al-Haram.

Having grown up in Madinah, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani was deeply familiar with the Madani style and tone of the Adhan. When his father brought him to Makkah, he also became acquainted with the distinct Makki tradition. During his stay in Makkah, he met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former muadhin of Masjid al-Haram, allowing him to closely learn the characteristics of both the Makki and Madani styles of Adhan.
