Pir Sahib Madhupur Urges PM to Heed Ulama on Religious Affairs Ministry

Allama Abdul Hamid Pir Saheb Madhupur, a prominent Islamic scholar and Ameer of the Khatme-e-Nabuwat Preservation Committee, has urged Prime Minister Tarique Rahman not to make decisions on religious affairs without consulting senior Ulema. In a video message to the prime minister, Pir Saheb Madhupur praised PM Tarique Rahman’s political journey and recalled the suffering faced by his family during the previous government. He also recalled his meetings with former prime minister Khaleda Zia and prayers he had offered for her family. Pir Saheb Madhupur said, “Today, Allah has paved the way for you to run the country. You are the worthy son of the first proclaimer of independence, martyr President Ziaur Rahman.”

He said Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority country with a long tradition of Islamic scholarship and urged the government not to take decisions that conflict with religion and Sharia. “I urge you not to take any action, especially regarding the Ministry of Religion, without consulting the top Ulama-e-Keram of Qawmi Madrasa,” he said. He added that senior scholars from institutions and religious centres across the country, including Hathazari, Patiya, Jiri, Nanupur, Lalbagh, Barakatara and Jatrabari, could be consulted if necessary.

Pir Saheb Madhupur also welcomed the appointment of Allama Abdul Malek as Khatib of Baitul Mukarram and Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad as Minister of Religious Affairs. He said, “No follower of any heretical or wrong group should come to the place of religious policy-making (Ministry of Religion).” He urged the Prime Minister to use the powers entrusted to him responsibly and prayed for the protection of the country and its religious values.
