PM Calls for Productivity Surge to Build $1 Trillion Economy

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called for prioritizing productivity growth through technology, innovation, and skilled human resources to build a modern, competitive economy capable of reaching $1 trillion by 2034.

In a message marking ‘National Productivity Day 2026’, organized by the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) under the Ministry of Industries, the Prime Minister emphasized that productivity growth is essential for sustainable industrialization, employment, and economic advancement. He urged active collaboration between government policy support and industry stakeholders to enhance competitiveness across manufacturing and service sectors.

Extending greetings to entrepreneurs, researchers, professionals, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and workers, the Prime Minister commended initiatives aimed at building a more efficient and resilient economy.
Highlighting this year’s theme– ‘Integrating Innovation, Technology, and Skills for Higher Productivity’, he noted that emerging technologies like AI, automation, robotics, IoT, and data analytics are reshaping global industries. Bangladesh, he stressed, must adapt to maintain momentum.

“Alongside modernizing industries, we must cultivate an agile, creative, and tech-proficient workforce while expanding high-skill employment opportunities,” he said, affirming that the government is implementing key technology and skill-development pledges outlined in its election manifesto.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to investing in digital infrastructure, high-tech jobs, and vocational education, the Prime Minister reiterated the $1 trillion target for 2034, anchored in value-driven and skills-focused learning systems.

He noted that achieving sustainable productivity requires R&D investments, effective management, and worker welfare alongside technology adoption. Integrating digital tools, technical training, and language skills into education will better prepare youth for local and global labor markets.

Calling for safe and dignity-focused work environments, the Prime Minister encouraged businesses to invest in continuous upskilling and R&D, while broadening access to financing and technology for SMEs and startups.
He praised NPO’s ongoing training, research, and advisory role, expressing confidence that its services will continue expanding to meet evolving industry needs.

“Let us foster innovation, maximize technological utility, and develop human capital to build a sustainable, highly competitive industrial economy,” the Prime Minister concluded, wishing complete success to all National Productivity Day events.
