PM pays homage to Late Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia on BNP founding anniversary

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid homage to BNP founder Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and three-time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia by visiting their graves on the occasion of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) 48th founding anniversary.

He paid tribute at their graves in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital at 9:25am on Tuesday (September 1). After laying wreaths, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stood there silently for a while. Members of the BNP Standing Committee then paid tribute separately.

Later, the Prime Minister led those present in offering Fateha and a special prayer seeking forgiveness and peace for the departed souls of Martyred Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Standing Committee members, cabinet members and senior party leaders were present at the time. Earlier, thousands of BNP leaders and activists had gathered around the graves of Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to pay their respects.

The party, led by the Prime Minister, first paid tribute on behalf of the BNP. Leaders of various affiliated and associate organisations then paid their respects one after another.
