PM Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Attend Trump’s Dinner
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman attended a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump for world leaders staying in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The dinner was held on Tuesday (September 22) night local time.
Prime Minister’s Adviser and Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin disclosed the information during a briefing on the Prime Minister’s activities on the first day of his New York visit. Earlier on Tuesday morning, Dr Zubaida Rahman also accompanied the Prime Minister at a welcome dinner hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. There, they joined world leaders and their spouses for a group photograph.
The Prime Minister had a busy schedule on his first day after arriving in New York. Along with attending the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly, he held meetings with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Maldives Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop.
During his meeting with Julie Bishop, the Prime Minister sought more effective international cooperation to ensure the safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas. He also stressed the need to strengthen international initiatives for a lasting solution to the long-standing crisis.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly next Thursday (September 24). This will be his first address to the United Nations as Prime Minister. According to reports, he will deliver his speech in Bangla, in keeping with Bangladesh’s tradition.
The Prime Minister’s New York visit will continue until September 25. During this period, he will hold meetings with heads of government from various countries and representatives of international organisations and raise various issues concerning Bangladesh’s interests.
