Police to be Rewarded for Arresting Awami League Associates: Home Minister
The Home Minister of Bangladesh, Salahuddin Ahmad, announced monetary and career rewards for police personnel who successfully bring associates of the banned Awami League to justice. Speaking as the chief guest at the Police Week-2026 award presentation ceremony on Saturday, he emphasized the critical need for effective intelligence gathering and urged the police force to fully leverage their internal intelligence capabilities rather than relying on external organizations.
During his address, Minister Salahuddin Ahmad highlighted recent law enforcement actions, noting that three major figures associated with fascism were arrested locally in the past week alone. He questioned why intelligence support had previously failed to locate them, stating, ‘Police officers who successfully bring the associates of fascism and Awami forces under the purview of the law will receive rewards,’ while reiterating that law enforcement must maintain vigilance against those attempting to destabilize the nation.
In a stern warning regarding internal discipline, the Home Minister made it clear that the government would enforce strict accountability across all operational ranks. ‘The government will not hesitate to file treason cases against police personnel who breach discipline or secretly assist associates of fascism,’ he cautioned, adding that officers must seize this opportunity to reform themselves while fulfilling public expectations and safeguarding the rule of law.
The Minister emphasized the indispensable position of the police force in preserving internal security and acting as the primary point of contact for citizens seeking protection. He explained that officers’ responsibilities extend far beyond criminal arrests to upholding basic rights, restoring public trust, and advancing the state’s broader vision of transforming Bangladesh’s police into a modern, technology-driven, humane, firm, neutral, and trustworthy institution.
Presided over by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, the ceremony featured Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monjur Morshed Chowdhury as the special guest, alongside Additional IGP Khondker Rafiqul Islam, who delivered the opening remarks. The official event served to acknowledge exemplary service, administrative discipline, and major contributions toward solving high-profile criminal cases across various specialized divisions.
To mark the occasion, the government conferred four prestigious award categories, BPM, BPM-Service, PPM, and PPM-Service, upon 92 distinguished officers, with IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir receiving the BPM for 2025. Key recipients of the BPM-Service award included PBI Chief Md. Mostafa Kamal, River Police Chief Md. Rezaul Karim, CTTC Chief Mohammad Shamsul Haq, and former RAB Director MZM Entekhab Chowdhury.
