Police’s Lamentable Failure Maintaining Law And Order

Miscreants set fire to three buses at Kafrul, College Gate and Chittagong Road in the capital on Friday night. Meanwhile, miscreants exploded cocktails and hand grenades in Jatrabari, Malibagh, Moghbazar, Rampura, Agargaon, Mohakhali and Babubazar. Police said that these cocktail hand grenade explosions took place from noon to 11 pm on Friday.

In recent times, incidents of setting vehicles on fire and throwing cocktails at important places have been increasing, which has caused deep concern and fear among the people. According to observers, such deterioration in law and order is a sign of the deplorable failure of the police. During the interim government, the absence or incompetence of the police was a common reality.

Even then, such incidents of terrorism and sabotage did not occur. Now a government elected by a large vote is in power. The government has been in power for more than six months, but during this time, there has been no improvement except deterioration in citizen security and law and order.

The police are not in a security crisis like before, they are not in trauma. The question arises, why is law and order still not improving? In these six months, crimes such as murder, terrorism, extortion, encroachment, robbery, extortion etc. have increased at an alarming rate across the country.

The involvement of the police in some crimes has also been observed as before. A large number of police members and officers were appointed during the period of the fallen fascist government. Whatever their qualifications, they are mainly selected for political considerations.

As a result, it can be assumed that they still have loyalty to the rejected politics and banned parties. Naturally, the government is not getting proper responsibility and cooperation from such a police force. In such a situation, informed circles believe that there is no other way but to change and reorganize the police force.

No government’s success and popularity is proven without establishing law and order and citizen security. This is equally applicable to the current elected government. For good reason, the fascist government and the members and spies of the banned parties do not want the current government to succeed and increase in popularity. Their Indian masters do not want it either. That is why, from the very beginning, they have been making malicious attempts to cause the government to fail.

A report published quoting police and intelligence sources has revealed that the leaders and activists of the banned Awami League have tried to destabilize the country 371 times in the 210 days of the BNP government. They are creating panic by organizing sudden processions, vandalism and cocktail explosions.

The evidence of how far the leaders and activists of the banned Awami League can go is in their behavior and actions during the July mass uprising. The fallen fascists will not let the current government live in peace even for a day, their continuous attempts to create anarchy bear witness to this.

The position of the Awami League supporters in the administration, police and other fields is still almost unshakeable. The fascists can and do seek their help and cooperation in creating sabotage and anarchy. Such signs have already been observed in some incidents. Recently, a police OC said, ‘The Awami League will return again, nothing will happen if the Awami League comes. Everything will be fine. It is too late in December, Sheikh Hasina should have come this month. If Sheikh Hasina returns, the police will not be able to do anything.’

If this is the mindset of those in the police name, then what can be expected from them! Senior police officers will have to decide what action can be taken against such Awami-blind police. The inevitable and leading role of the police in ensuring law and order, citizen security, peace and justice cannot be overstated.

Needless to say, it is mandatory for the police to be patriotic, citizen-friendly, honest, fair and responsible. The image and respect of the police have been significantly damaged.

Now that image and respect have to be restored. The government has to pay serious attention to this. Although it is sad, one issue has to be remembered here. During the fascist government, the police were used arbitrarily in playing the militant card. Militants were sought and found in mosques and madrasas.

People with hats and beards, students who studied the Quran and books, scholars and Ulemas were identified as militants. Many of them were killed, many were subjected to immense torture and oppression. At that time, such incidents were very normal. Later, it was proven that most of the incidents were arranged, planned and purposeful. These incidents were carried out as evidence that the country was becoming a fundamentalist or militant state.

Recently, a similar incident in the capital was reported in the newspapers. Here too, the mosque was targeted. Police arrested 23 people from the mosque in Tejgaon on suspicion of being members of militant or extremist organizations. According to the police, they were meeting after Friday prayers.

After receiving information from a secret source, the police raided the place and arrested them. The police have not yet been able to confirm whether they are actually militants or extremists. The matter is very sensitive in the current context. Therefore, it must be thoroughly investigated.

It may be mentioned here that the fascists and their shelter-sponsor India have been spreading the message that extremist Islam has won in Bangladesh since the July uprising. The Indian media and newspapers are continuing to spread the message that Bangladesh has become a fundamentalist or militant state.

They are spreading lies like this that minorities, especially Hindus, have no security here, they are being subjected to various forms of torture and persecution. The government must be alert and cautious in this regard. The game of arresting militants must be stopped. No one wants to watch the drama of Jazmiya in this country anymore.

Hopefully, the people of this country are not extremists and militants. The country’s Pir-Mashaykhs, Alem-Ulamas are the heirs and followers of the saints and dervishes of the past. The common people are also humane, tolerant, and kind. There is no possibility of Bangladesh becoming a fundamentalist or militant state. The government does not want a fundamentalist or militant state.

The anti-strong parties in the National Parliament also do not want it. There is no place for extremism, fundamentalism or militancy in Islam. Therefore, all propaganda on this issue must be resisted collectively. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making continuous efforts to make the country a liberal Muslim country and ensure its progress and prosperity. Supporting him means taking the country forward. We all have to ensure that his mission is not disrupted for any reason.
