President Stresses Visa Simplification, Education Quality, and Democracy

• Courtesy Meetings Fill the Day at Bangabhaban

The Vietnamese Ambassador, freedom fighter Mr. Kader Siddiqui, the Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, and leaders of the Revolutionary Workers Party held courtesy meetings with President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban. The meetings took place yesterday, Thursday. Discussions covered visa process simplification, education quality, and the country’s democratic journey.

Call to Ease Vietnam’s Visa Process

President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called on Vietnam to further ease its visa process. He wants this for Bangladeshi businesspeople, workers, students, and tourists. He made this call yesterday, Thursday, when Vietnamese Ambassador Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong visited for a farewell meeting.

The President said the two countries share more than five decades of friendly relations. He said this relationship needs stronger business, investment, and people to people ties to unlock its development potential. Ambassador Mr. Cuong stressed direct flight connections, implementation of preferential trade agreements, and more high level visits between the countries.

The President recalled his visit to Vietnam in 2003. He traveled then as part of former Prime Minister Ms. Khaleda Zia’s delegation. He urged Vietnam to import more Bangladeshi medicine, leather, ceramics, bicycles, jute, and jute products. He thanked the outgoing ambassador and wished him good health and wished prosperity for the people of Vietnam.

Courtesy Meeting with Freedom Fighter Mr. Kader Siddiqui

Freedom fighter Bangabir Mr. Abdul Kader Siddiqui, Bir Uttom, held a courtesy meeting with President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday, Thursday. Mr. Siddiqui congratulated the President during the meeting at Bangabhaban. Both leaders exchanged greetings.

The President asked about Mr. Siddiqui’s health. They also discussed various issues facing the country.

Call to Raise University Education and Research Standards

President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for merit and qualification to guide all decisions, including faculty recruitment. He said this would raise the quality of university education and research. He made these remarks when Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan visited for a courtesy meeting yesterday, Thursday.

The Vice Chancellor briefed the President on the university’s education, research, and academic progress. He invited the President to attend the university’s proposed convocation next April as Chancellor. The President accepted the invitation.
